Reiki is a Japanese word and is pronounced as 'ray~kay'. It denotes universal life force energy. It is the power, which acts and lives in all created matter. The word consists of two parts; REI means the boundless aspect of this 'universal' energy, which KI is in itself part of REI, meaning the vital life force energy, which flows through all living beings. In other words, REIKI is wisdom and truth.

Many races, cultures and religions have always been aware of the existence of an energy, which corresponds to the meaning of KI. Thus KI is named as:

What exactly is this universal life force energy?

They tell us that there is a state of being which contains all creation and out of which all life arose. The significance of this in actual terms is that Reiki is above all holistic in its approach. It reaches all levels of existence and strives to bring these differing levels into state of balance. The Reiki therapist is only a channel for this energy for it is not his own limited energy which passes through him when he lays his hands on a person but rather a universal one which leaves him strengthened and harmonious afterwards.

Reiki also makes its own way to the area of the body in need of treatment. It is obviously driven by a greater wisdom than our own for it seems to know where and to what extent a patient needs it. Reiki by its nature brings a state of balance, to heal in mind, body and spirit.

Reiki has got nothing to do with spiritualism or the occult in any shape or form. It has nothing to do with the calling of ghost or demons, nor is it connected with hypnosis or any other kind of psychological technique. Giving Reiki does not make you a magician. Reiki is simple, natural and scientific. There is no need to create and alter the state of our consciousness in order to make Reiki work. All it takes it to remain focused for Reiki to automatically work in the form of cosmic energy.

To practice Reiki you need no education, you do not need any tools or equipment. Your cup palms are the only implements you need. You do not need any kind of special faith or believe, you can belong to any religion,
